The pages are still blank, but there is a miraculous feeling of the words being there, written in invisible ink and clamouring to become visible. ~Vladimir Nabakov
After years of being haunted by these ghostly words, I have decided to turn and face my fears. I will heed their call for life and finally discover, for better or worse, what kind of writer I am. The prospect is terrifying.
I recently discovered a community of writers whose love of words leads them to create clever sentences every day in response to a word challenge. As simple as it seems, the daily discipline and the warm support of this talented company has reawakened my love of writing and given me the confidence to tackle bigger challenges.
The next step is Waxings, which I hope will provide inspiration, encouragement, useful writing resources and the comfort of knowing we are not alone in our uncertainty and boundless capacity for procrastination.
With thanks to my friends at In A Sentence.
I love this opening statement, Carina. It exactly captures my own feelings and state of being, as a result of my involvement with In A Sentence!! Except for your peculiar interest in all things political, we could almost be two peas in a pod ;). Thanks for the invite…I look forward to exploring those invisible words with you.
Oooh, I love this, Carina! Nabokov’s line is exactly how I feel everytime I start a new journal — a razor-tip pen hovering over clean, white sheets of paper devoid of handwriting yet humming with potential! May “Waxings” happily hum for you! And your friends at IAS thank you for your delightful daily contributions.
Congratulations on going public! How are the shares trading today? Am looking forward to seeing some great quarterly figures and a nice juicy dividend at the end of the finacial year.
Carina, – lovely intent and a really nice sentiment. I will look forward to reading your waxing and maybe even send something in if I can get up the courage! It is really rewarding.. as long as you keep up – you will see from mine that I wax and wane a bit!
